MENINO JESUS MANHIÇA, MOZAMBIQUE „Menino Jesus“ is an orphanage for girls in Manhiça, approx. 78km north of Maputo. It is one of the
establishments of the catholic diocese of Maputo. The orphanage is managed by the nuns of the
congregation of the “Franciscan Sisters Maria Mother of Africa” (Irmãs Franciscanas de Nossa
Senhora Mãe de Africa). The orphanage cares only for girls, most of whom have lost their parents
due to HIV/AIDS (some are themselves infected) or other illnesses. Currently it accommodates
60 girls between the ages of 5 and 18 years. In 2011 we built a new house for the older girls to live
and study there. The project was successfully completed in 2011 and handed over to the directorate
